The Data Protection Focus Group of the Platform Security, Protection and Trust for Society and Business has been dealing with questions of pseudonymisation in compliance with data protection law from different perspectives. Our parent company SRIW welcomes credible projects in the field of self- and co-regulation and therefore collaborated in this working group to develop a draft Code of Conduct on the use of GDPR compliant pseudonymisation, which was published last month at the Digital Summit 2019 in German. Today, the English version of the draft Code was released.
Since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) entered into force, discussions on Codes of Conduct have considerably increased. SRIW and SCOPE Europe are currently involved a variety of Code of Conduct initiatives and projects. The expertise developed during the last years, presumably almost unique, was provided to the focus group during the development of the draft Code of Conduct for pseudonymisation. From SCOPE Europe / SRIW's point of view, it is vital that the verification of the Code compliance is taken into account from the beginning ('monitoring by design'). This can make Codes of Conduct also more accessible for start-ups and SMEs, e.g. as by keeping costs and other resources comparably low for companies adhering to the Code.
