We were thrilled to host the panel “Privacy in Motion – Addressing Compliance Hurdles in a Data-Driven World.” Moderated by our Managing Director, Gabriela Mercuri, the session featured Claudia Berg (Covington & Burling), Mark Crosbie (Dropbox), and Claude-Etienne Armingaud (K&L Gates). Together, they explored the compliance challenges faced by businesses, and how co-regulatory tools like standards can help streamline compliance, build trust, and ensure regulatory harmonization. The discussion also underscored the increasing role of co-regulatory tools like the EU Cloud CoC in easing compliance burdens and fostering trust in the cloud industry.
Beyond our panel, Gabriela Mercuri also participated in the discussion, “Cloudy with a Chance of Data? Weathering the Data Act’s Effects on the Cloud,” alongside Richard Greene (Autodesk) and Phillip Lee (Digiphile Services). With most of the EU Data Act provisions set to apply from September 2025, the panel explored how this regulation aims to enhance interoperability, facilitate easier switching between cloud providers, and introduce fair contractual terms for non-personal data processing. In addition, the conversation also highlighted key challenges, including potential conflicts with GDPR, uncertainty around enforcement, and the lack of clear guidance on compliance expectations. The discussion reinforced the urgent need for further clarity and industry collaboration to ensure a smooth and practical implementation of the new rules.
DPI25 reaffirmed the importance of cooperation between regulators, industry, and privacy professionals to navigate evolving compliance landscapes. As co-regulatory approaches continue to gain traction, SCOPE Europe remains committed to supporting practical compliance solutions that bridge the gap between regulatory requirements and operational realities.
We are grateful for the engaging discussions, valuable insights, and meaningful connections made throughout the conference. Thank you to all the speakers, participants, and organizers who contributed to making #DPI25 such a success! We look forward to continuing these conversations and shaping the future of data protection—see you at the next one!
