SRIWNewsPress Release

Berlin, February 1, 2023 - Frank Ingenrieth becomes Managing Director of Selbstregulierung Informationswirtschaft e.V. (SRIW), the leading association for the development, implementation and dissemination of innovation-friendly regulatory approaches in the digital economy.

Jörn Wittmann passes on the management of SRIW to Frank Ingenrieth after more than seven successfully years in charge. Jörn Wittmann takes over a management position in the Group Data Protection of Volkswagen AG. Addressing the cooperation, Jörn Wittmann states:

The SRIW was founded by digital industry leaders with the ambitious goal of establishing new and credible regulatory solutions in the areas of data and consumer protection. It was an outstandingly positive experience to take on this challenge and establish the association in the market. Crucial to the success under my leadership has been the exceptional dedication and unique expertise of my team. Frank Ingenrieth has been instrumental in all the successes to date and is the ideal successor to me.

I wish Frank Ingenrieth and the team all the best for the future and thank the Board of Directors, the members, the Advisory Board and other partners of SRIW for the trust they have demonstrated towards me and for the excellent cooperation.”

Previously acting as Deputy Managing Director, Frank Ingenrieth is keen to continue strengthening the association in its role as an interface between politics and civil society, ensuring credible, effective and innovative self- and co-regulation and establishing implementation projects:

In the past years, the SRIW celebrated successes, and mastered challenges, under the leadership and through the extensive expertise and passion of Jörn Wittmann. The SRIW became an expert in identifying the specific challenges in the context of credible self- and co-regulation at an early stage, and in establishing successful, practical solutions together with the relevant stakeholders. I remain committed to this mission and expectation of the SRIW. This will also enable the association to respond to future developments, for example by continuously strengthening the European perspective and promoting appropriate legal and social frameworks. In this context, I look forward to continued reliance on SRIW's dedicated and competent team, its broad base of members and partners, and the support of its Board of Directors!

Finally, I express - also on behalf of the entire SRIW team - my deepest appreciation and wish Jörn Wittmann every success in his future career."

SRIW's subsidiary, SCOPE Europe, is also undergoing a change in management. Picking up on this change, Claus Ulmer, Global Data Privacy Officer at Deutsche Telekom and Chairman of the Board of SRIW, states:

We would like to thank Jörn Wittmann for his extraordinary commitment to SRIW and SCOPE Europe, through which he has made not only the association itself, but also the main focus areas, such as the EU Cloud Code of Conduct and the Geodata Codex (ger.: Geodatenkodex), into success stories. At the same time, with Frank Ingenrieth for the SRIW and Gabriela Mercuri for SCOPE Europe, we have succeeded in finding two very knowledgeable and well-connected successors who have already played a significant role in the activities of the SRIW and SCOPE Europe to date. The board is looking forward to the cooperation and wishes Mr. Ingenrieth and Ms. Mercuri much success in their new tasks and challenges.”

About SRIW
SRIW e.V. was founded in 2011 as an independent, private monitoring body of industry-specific codes of conduct. The overriding premise since its founding has been to provide the necessary independent structures to establish and manage industry-specific codes of conduct and to ensure their credible and effective monitoring, including a complaints mechanism. Since then, SRIW has been successfully involved in the development of codes of conduct, including in the area of data protection, and is also involved in other forms around the topic of modern-regulation.
