Blue10 demonstrates its commitment to data protection through the Data Pro Code

SCOPE EuropeNews

In an era where responsible data handling practices are essential to business operations, Blue10 reinforces the importance of protecting individuals’ rights in the digital age. By adhering to the Data Pro Code—the first Dutch GDPR Code of Conduct—Blue10 follows a framework that promotes responsible and transparent data handling.

“The path to becoming Data Pro 'Verified' was driven by the importance Blue10 places on transparency and trust,” says Marcel Duijvestijn, CEO and co-founder of the company. “Our customers need to be able to trust Blue10 with their data. In that regard, we strive to be very transparent about the measures we have implemented to protect client data,” he explains. “Although we process a limited amount of personal data, compliance with the Data Pro Code is a logical addition to the assurance tools we already have, such as ISAE 3402 and SOC 2 reports.”

Navigating the Compliance Process

For Blue10, the integration of the Data Pro Code into their compliance strategy began during the broader shift towards GDPR compliance. “The continuous compliance process of Data Pro does not require significant extra effort, as data protection is part of our daily operations,” says Ed Ridderbeekx, Compliance Officer at Blue10. “We had to adjust slightly to the transfer of oversight responsibilities from the supervisory body of NLdigital to SCOPE Europe, but that was not a major hurdle.”

This experience demonstrates that aligning with the Data Pro Code can be a seamless addition for organizations that view data protection as a core activity. The transition to the new supervisory authority emphasized Blue10’s flexibility and dedication to continuously improving their compliance.

Building Trust through Transparency

The benefits of being Data Pro 'Verified' extend beyond mere regulatory compliance; they strengthen Blue10's relationships with their clients. “It’s difficult to measure whether compliance with the Data Pro Code was the decisive factor for customers choosing us, but it certainly underscores our commitment to transparency and accountability,” says Marcel. “A potential client doesn’t need to ask how we handle security and privacy; the answers are already available. This aligns with the philosophy embedded in our own product. Our software helps clients organize their administrative processes efficiently and automate as much as possible. Every change a user makes in our software is recorded in an audit log, making it directly and easily accessible to the client’s auditor during their year-end review.”

By adhering to the code of conduct, Blue10 not only meets GDPR requirements for processors but also reinforces customer trust by demonstrating robust data management. “Being Data Pro ‘Verified’ contributes to the demonstrability of control over personal data processing,” adds Ed. In a business environment where companies increasingly rely on third parties for product quality, having clear data security measures is becoming ever more crucial.

Raising the Bar within the Industry

The early establishment of the Data Pro Code by NLdigital was a strategic move, especially as GDPR-based certification schemes are complex and time-consuming. “Data Pro ‘Verified’ provides assurance in a world where compliance requirements are becoming more stringent,”Ed notes. This proactive approach offers companies a way to demonstrate good practices in information security, even before certification schemes become widely available.

Blue10 believes that codes of conduct such as the Data Pro play an important role in raising data protection standards within the industry. As companies face growing expectations around data security and privacy, compliance with established frameworks becomes not only a legal requirement but also a competitive advantage.

Looking Ahead

As Blue10 continues its growth path, security and privacy remain central to their operations. “We closely monitor developments in certification and assurance to ensure that we stay ahead,” says Marcel. This proactive stance will help Blue10 adapt to changing compliance landscapes and maintain their position as a trusted partner for clients.

For other NLdigital members and ICT companies, Blue10’s experience is a compelling example to become Data Pro 'Verified' as well. Blue10’s journey shows that compliance with the Data Pro Code is not just a checkbox on a list but a strategic investment in building customer trust and raising standards within the industry.

Blue10’s story highlights the value of aligning with the Data Pro Code for companies looking to strengthen their data protection. As the regulatory climate continues to evolve, proactive compliance can provide companies with the assurance they need to thrive.
