Roundtable with the Dutch Data Protection Authority and NLdigital

SCOPE EuropeNews

We recently joined the Dutch Data Protection Authority and NLdigital for an interactive roundtable dedicated to GDPR compliance, responsible data use, and the role of codes of conduct.

A key takeaway from the discussion was the emphasis on the role of GDPR codes of conduct and other accountability mechanisms as practical tools for demonstrating compliance. As regulatory requirements become increasingly complex, participants underscored that approved codes of conduct can help translate legal obligations into clear and workable steps for organisations. The Data Pro Code, developed by NLdigital and monitored by SCOPE Europe, was highlighted as an example of a tool that can be used by organisations seeking to document and demonstrate GDPR compliance.

During the exchange, the Dutch DPA shared insights into its proactive supervisory approach, stressing the importance of effective risk management, digital resilience, and responsible data governance. Discussions further addressed international data transfers, digital autonomy, and the challenges many organisations face in navigating an evolving regulatory landscape.

As the accredited monitoring body for the Data Pro Code, SCOPE Europe presented the role of independent monitoring in ensuring that codes of conduct remain credible, effective, and aligned with industry practices. We also shared our extensive experience in the development and implementation of data protection compliance tools and discussed their added value across a wide range of data processing contexts.

Many thanks to the Dutch DPA and NLdigital for the fruitful exchange, and to all participants for contributing to an engaging and insightful discussion.
